Convicted Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe Arrested And Detained In The United States
Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, has been arrested and detained in the United States following an extradition request by Ghanaian authorities. Her arrest marks a major step in efforts to return her to Ghana to serve a prison sentence handed down after her conviction.
Tamakloe was taken into custody by U.S. authorities and is currently being held at a detention facility while legal processes related to her extradition continue. Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United States has confirmed her detention, noting that the arrest followed formal cooperation between Ghana and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
In 2024, Tamakloe was convicted in Ghana in absentia on several charges, including causing financial loss to the state. The court sentenced her to a 10 year prison term after finding her guilty of financial misconduct linked to her tenure at MASLOC. The case centered on the misapplication of public funds and breaches of financial regulations during her leadership period.
Since her conviction, the Attorney General’s office has pursued her return to Ghana, engaging U.S. authorities to ensure the enforcement of the court’s decision. Officials have indicated that discussions between both countries are ongoing, with assurances that the extradition process will be handled in line with existing legal agreements.
The arrest has reignited public interest in accountability for public officials found guilty of corruption related offenses. Many see the development as a strong signal that convictions will be pursued beyond national borders and that individuals cannot evade justice by relocating abroad.
As legal procedures continue, attention now turns to whether Tamakloe will be extradited to Ghana in the coming months to serve her sentence, a move that could further strengthen international cooperation on justice and anti corruption efforts.
