Prophet Kofi Oduro Questions Source Of GH₵2 Million Given To Baba Jamal
Senior pastor Prophet Kofi Oduro of the Alabaster International Ministry has publicly challenged National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician Baba Jamal over reports that he distributed GH₵2 million to delegates during recent political activities. Prophet Oduro asked a direct question to Baba Jamal and his political supporters about where the money came from, saying it raised concerns about the integrity of internal party processes.
The preacher’s remarks were made amid ongoing allegations of vote buying connected to party primaries in different constituencies. Although he did not provide independent evidence, Prophet Oduro emphasised that large sums of cash changing hands in political contexts can undermine fairness and public confidence in democratic systems. His comments added to growing public debate about political financing and ethical conduct during party elections.
Some social media users and critics have criticised the preacher, saying that religious leaders should focus on spiritual matters rather than political disputes. Supporters of Baba Jamal, a former Member of Parliament and aspirant in the NDC primary race, said the money was distributed as part of legitimate campaign logistics and that questions about funding sources should be raised by official watchdog bodies.
The broader controversy about alleged inducements in internal party contests has drawn the attention of civil society groups and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which have said they will investigate claims of vote buying in both major parties. Ghanaian law considers offering money or goods to influence votes as a serious offence when used to distort electoral outcomes.
