Court Grants Lumba Family Head Leave To File Injunction Against Second Funeral

The Kumasi High Court has granted the head of the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba family, known as the Abusuapanin, leave to file a new injunction targeting the organisation of what has been described as a second funeral for the music legend. The ruling follows ongoing legal disputes over funeral arrangements and widowhood rites since the death of the celebrated artist on July 26 2025.

In recent proceedings, the court dismissed an earlier bid by the first wife of Daddy Lumba to halt funeral plans. That application sought to prevent funeral rites from going ahead amid claims she had been sidelined by family leadership and the second wife. With that injunction dismissed, the family head is now permitted to bring a fresh legal action to challenge additional funeral arrangements that are reportedly being planned by other parties.

The disagreement over funeral rites reflects deeper disputes within the late musician’s extended family and between his two wives over who should preside over the final ceremonies. Throughout the saga, arguments have touched on customary roles under Ashanti tradition as well as questions around legal spouse recognition.

Legal experts suggest the fresh injunction may aim to ensure that any further funeral activities align with agreed family and customary protocols rather than proceed independently. It also highlights how complex the case has become long after Daddy Lumba’s passing, with multiple lawsuits touching on rights to organise funerals and perform traditional widowhood rites.

Observers note the legal battles underscore broader tensions that can arise after the death of a prominent public figure whose personal and family life involved multiple relationships. Fans and industry watchers continue to follow developments closely as the court prepares to hear the newly authorised injunction
