Pete Edochie Family Seeks Legal Action Over False Death Rumour
The family of veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has taken action after a false report claiming he had died began circulating online. They have reached out to the Department of State Services (DSS) to seek the arrest of a TikToker accused of posting the misleading death claim.
The incident started when a video appeared on TikTok suggesting that the veteran actor had passed away. The footage quickly spread on social media and caused concern among fans before it was later debunked by the actor’s family and management.
Leo Edochie, Pete Edochie’s first son, publicly condemned the claim and described it as completely false. In a social media post, he said he had contacted the DSS to help apprehend the individual believed to be responsible for the video. Leo also shared the TikToker’s username and offered a cash reward to anyone who provides information leading to the person’s arrest.
In his post, Leo wrote that the TikToker posted the death rumour under the handle @ONE_BOR 001 and urged followers to send any useful information directly to him so that the DSS can locate the suspect. He added that the reward will be given once the arrest is made.
False reports about celebrities can spread quickly on social media and sometimes create unnecessary panic and distress among the public. The family’s move to involve security authorities reflects growing concern over fake news and the harm it can cause when widely shared without verification.
Pete Edochie, widely respected in the film industry for his long and influential career, has been the subject of several false death rumours in the past. The family’s efforts to hold the TikToker accountable aim to discourage similar unfounded claims in the future and protect his reputation
