President Mahama Delivers 2026 State Of The Nation Address In Parliament

President John Dramani Mahama has presented the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament, fulfilling his constitutional duty to report on Ghana’s overall condition and outline the government’s priorities for the year. The address was delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the chamber of Parliament in Accra.

In the address, President Mahama offered a comprehensive review of the nation’s social, economic, and political progress, highlighting achievements and challenges across key sectors. He assessed developments in areas such as the economy, health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and Ghana’s foreign relations.

The SONA speech also outlined the policy direction and priorities of the government for 2026, providing a roadmap for legislative and development efforts in the coming year. This annual address is required by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates that the President present a detailed report to Parliament at the start of each parliamentary session.

Ahead of the presentation, lawmakers from both the Majority and Minority parties made statements underscoring areas they expect to be addressed, such as job creation, cost of living concerns, and youth unemployment. The government’s efforts to strengthen economic stability and public services were also emphasised in the lead-up to the address.

As the speech unfolded, many Ghanaians followed the livestream and media coverage, noting the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in outlining its achievements and future plans.
