Dzifa Gomashie Calls For Probe Into Alleged Attack On Ibrahim Mahama
Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie, has revealed that she has formally engaged the Interior Minister to investigate the alleged assault on renowned artist Ibrahim Mahama.
The minister described the reported incident as deeply troubling, stressing that such occurrences should not be tolerated in a country that prides itself on justice and the rule of law. She expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and extended sympathy to the artist following the incident.
According to available details, Ibrahim Mahama was reportedly assaulted by security personnel in Tamale after an encounter following Eid celebrations. The incident is said to have left him physically injured and emotionally affected, forcing him to suspend several international engagements, including lectures and exhibitions abroad.
Reacting to the development, Gomashie emphasised the need for a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability. She indicated that her engagement with the Interior Ministry is aimed at ensuring that the matter is handled with urgency and fairness.
The incident has also attracted widespread condemnation from stakeholders within the creative arts sector. Some organisations have described the alleged assault as a violation of human rights and artistic freedom, calling for swift action from authorities.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has reportedly initiated its own investigations into the matter, with assurances that any officers found culpable will face the necessary disciplinary measures.
The situation continues to generate public debate, with many Ghanaians calling for justice and improved conduct from security personnel when dealing with civilians.
As investigations proceed, attention remains on how authorities will address the claims and what measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
