Accra High Court Lifts Injunction And Clears Way For Daddy Lumba’s Funeral
The Accra High Court has lifted the injunction that briefly halted preparations for the funeral of celebrated highlife musician Daddy Lumba. This decision allows the ceremony to continue as scheduled on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The injunction was originally placed after concerns were raised regarding the involvement of the musician’s immediate family in the funeral planning process. During Friday’s proceedings, the court instructed the applicants to pay GH¢2 million by 2:00 pm to cover costs already incurred for the funeral arrangements. This directive was meant to ensure accountability and allow preparations to proceed without unfair financial burden on any party.
The applicants did not meet the payment deadline. As a result, the court struck out their application and lifted the injunction. With the case dismissed, all legal barriers preventing the funeral from moving forward have been cleared.
Thomas Kwadwo Osei, representing the family head, expressed relief at the ruling and confirmed that the family is now able to complete the final arrangements without any further interruptions or conflicts. Earlier in the week, the dispute between the maternal family and the family head had created uncertainty about the funeral’s direction, particularly concerning leadership and financial oversight. With the injunction now removed, the funeral activities will proceed as planned.
