Accra High Court Postpones Ruling on Application to Block Release of Daddy Lumba’s Body
The Accra High Court has postponed its ruling on an application seeking to prevent the release of the body of the late highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, until Friday December 12.
The application was filed by members of the musician’s maternal family. They argue that under Akan custom and Ghanaian law, the maternal lineage holds the exclusive right to take custody of his body and lead all funeral arrangements. According to them, tradition grants the maternal family full responsibility for burial decisions and related rites.
After hearing submissions from both sides, the court adjourned proceedings and scheduled its ruling for Friday. The decision is expected to determine who has the legal authority to manage funeral plans, take possession of the remains, and oversee any memorial initiatives.
Speaking to the press after the hearing, a representative of the family head and first defendant, Kweku Emmanuel Debrah, said the family respects the court’s process and remains united. He noted that they will accept the court’s ruling and believe the final decision will bring clarity and harmony.
Highlife musician Papa Shee, who attended the court session in support of the applicants, also expressed confidence in the process. He welcomed the judge’s decision to set a firm date for the ruling and said he is hopeful about the outcome.
