Actors Guild Honours Late Junior Pope With Lasting Tribute
The Actors Guild of Nigeria has taken steps to honour the late Nollywood actor Junior Pope by immortalising his legacy with a dedicated space in the Nollywood City project in Enugu. The guild officially unveiled the tribute site as part of efforts to remember his contributions to the film industry and ensure his name continues to be celebrated.
The memorial project includes 150 plots of land in Nollywood City. A portion of this land will serve as a lasting landmark in honour of the actor. In addition, the family of Junior Pope, including his sons, will receive portions of land as a legacy from the guild.
Junior Pope, whose real name was John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo, was a popular Nollywood actor known for his work in many Nigerian films. He tragically died in April 2025 in a boat accident on the Anam River. He was working on a film project with several colleagues when their boat capsized and took their lives.
Fellow actors, industry insiders and fans have frequently paid tribute to Junior Pope since his passing, reflecting on his warm personality, professional achievements and the impact of his work on audiences across Africa.
The unveiling of the memorial space by the Actors Guild marks a significant moment in recognising the contributions of one of Nollywoods most beloved performers.
