Court Grants Head Of Lumba Family Permission To Apply For Injunction Against Second Funeral
An Accra High Court has given Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the head of the family of the late Ghanaian music legend Daddy Lumba, formal permission to file an injunction against plans for a second funeral service.
The decision means that the family can now legally challenge arrangements for another funeral event through the courts. The leave to file the injunction was granted after legal arguments were presented before an Accra High Court judge.
Details about the grounds for the planned injunction have not been fully disclosed, but the move reflects ongoing disputes among members of Daddy Lumba’s extended family over funeral arrangements. This follows a prolonged series of legal battles involving competing claims from different family sides and individuals over who has the right to organize and lead the late musician’s funeral rites.
Daddy Lumba, whose real name was Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, and his death has been followed by public and highly visible disagreements across family lines regarding funeral arrangements and related legal issues.
The court’s latest ruling allows the family head to pursue judicial review of the second funeral plans, which could delay or alter the proposed event depending on how the case proceeds.
