Adom Otchere Slams Asiedu Nketiah Over Derogatory Remark About Rawlings’ Wife
Veteran Ghanaian journalist Paul Adom Otchere has strongly condemned a controversial comment made by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), about Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings. Otchere described the remark as unnecessary, disrespectful, and demeaning, especially given Mrs Rawlings’ longstanding public service and role in Ghanaian society.
During a televised programme, the journalist criticized Asiedu Nketiah for using language that he said crossed the line of acceptable political debate. Otchere emphasized that public figures should refrain from personal attacks and derogatory remarks, particularly against women and individuals who have contributed significantly to national life. The journalist stressed that political discourse should focus on ideas and policies rather than ad hominem comments that serve only to inflame tensions.
Otchere’s intervention reflects wider concerns about the tone of political rhetoric in Ghana, with many calling for greater civility and respect in public discussions. He urged political leaders and communicators to uphold standards of professionalism and to avoid remarks that could be seen as offensive or disrespectful toward others, regardless of political differences.
The controversy has reignited conversations about how political dialogue is conducted in Ghana’s media and public spaces, with observers highlighting the need for a more constructive exchange of views that does not diminish the dignity of individuals.
