Agya Koo Nimo Urges Ghanaian Lawyers To Specialise In Copyright Law
Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician Agya Koo Nimo has called on legal professionals in Ghana to consider specialising in copyright and intellectual property law to better support creatives in the country.
During a recent public comment on the challenges faced by artists and creators, Agya Koo Nimo stressed that Ghana’s creative community often struggles with issues related to ownership, usage rights, and proper legal protection of artistic works. He believes that having lawyers with deep expertise in copyright law would help protect musicians, writers, and other creators from exploitation and disputes over their work.
Agya Koo Nimo pointed out that the lack of legal specialists in this area leaves many artists without adequate support when their intellectual property rights are violated. His appeal is aimed at encouraging young lawyers to see copyright law as a valuable field of practice that can make a real difference in the creative industry.
The musician is widely respected for his contributions to Ghanaian music, especially in the palm wine and highlife genres, and has long been an advocate for the welfare and development of artists. His comments come amid ongoing conversations about how best to strengthen legal and institutional support for creators in Ghana’s entertainment scene.
