Akwaboah Expresses Concern Over Quality Of Current Ghanaian Songs

Ghanaian highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr has raised concerns about the current state of music in the country, warning that many of today’s songs may not stand the test of time. The singer and songwriter believes the industry is gradually moving away from meaningful and timeless music.

Speaking in a recent discussion, Akwaboah suggested that years from now, people may not feel proud of many songs being produced today. According to him, the focus has shifted too much towards trends and commercial appeal rather than substance and musical depth. He stressed that music should carry lasting value and emotional connection, not just immediate popularity.

Akwaboah, known for his strong vocal ability and songwriting skills, pointed out that older Ghanaian songs continue to resonate with audiences because they were created with deeper meaning and careful composition. He believes that modern musicians need to pay more attention to lyrical content, musical arrangement, and authenticity if they want their work to endure over time.

The musician also hinted that the industry sometimes rewards what he described as shallow or quick-hit songs, which can discourage artists who are focused on creating more meaningful music. This, he suggested, could be one of the reasons why quality and originality are sometimes overlooked in favour of trends.

His comments have sparked conversation among music fans and industry stakeholders, with many agreeing that there is a need to strike a balance between commercial success and artistic integrity. Others, however, argue that music naturally evolves with time and reflects the tastes of each generation.

Akwaboah’s remarks add to ongoing discussions about the future of Ghanaian music and what it will represent in the years ahead.
