Reverend Markwei Outlines Five Signs To Identify False Prophets

Reverend Dr. Henry Markwei, leader of Christ Cathedral Ghana, has shared guidance on how Christians can recognise false prophets. In a message delivered during a special service, he stressed that believers should be discerning and alert to spiritual leaders whose actions and teachings do not align with biblical truths.

Dr. Markwei explained that false prophets often mislead people by promoting messages that appear appealing but do not reflect God’s word. He emphasised that spiritual discernment is essential in an age where religious claims can be mixed with personal ambition or deception.

To help believers distinguish authentic ministers from impostors, the reverend outlined five key characteristics — the five Ms — that should raise concern if present in someone claiming to speak for God:

1. Message Distortion

A false prophet will twist or change core teachings of Scripture to suit popular trends, personal gain, or cultural popularity. Dr. Markwei noted that the Bible must be the standard for all spiritual instruction, and any message that contradicts it should be questioned.

2. Moral Compromise

Leaders who present themselves as holy but live in contradiction to biblical morals are suspect. The reverend said that genuine servants of God demonstrate integrity in their personal lives, not just in their public ministry.

3. Manipulative Motives

According to Dr. Markwei, false prophets often pursue selfish ambitions such as wealth, influence, or power. He warned that spiritual leaders driven primarily by personal benefit rather than service are not representing God’s heart.

4. Magnifying Self Over Scripture

Some charismatic teachers attract attention by elevating their own personality or opinions above the authority of Scripture. The preacher noted that God’s word should always take precedence over human interpretation.

5. Misleading Miracles

Dr. Markwei pointed out that not all supernatural claims are from God. False prophets may stage signs or wonders that draw crowds but lack alignment with biblical purposes or lead people away from truth.

The reverend urged Christians to test every teaching and teacher against God’s word and to seek wisdom through prayer and fellowship with mature believers. He reminded his audience that spiritual deception is real and that vigilance is necessary for spiritual health.

Dr. Markwei’s message was delivered as part of ongoing efforts by church leaders to strengthen biblical literacy and protect worshippers from deception.
