Atebubu Paramount Chief Urges Expansion Of Metro Mass Services To Boost Local Economy

The Paramount Chief of Atebubu, Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah, has appealed to Metro Mass Transit Limited to extend its transport services to the municipality and surrounding communities to improve mobility and support economic growth.

According to the traditional leader, the absence of a reliable commercial transport system continues to create major challenges for residents, particularly farmers and traders. He explained that many farmers struggle to transport their produce to markets, resulting in significant financial losses and post-harvest waste.

The chief made this appeal during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit, Kale Cezar. He emphasised that introducing regular bus services in Atebubu would ease transportation difficulties, enhance the movement of goods and people, and strengthen the local agricultural economy.

Ohempon Dr. Asiamah also encouraged the leadership of the transport company to continue advancing efforts aimed at improving Ghana’s public transportation system in line with national development goals.

In response, Kale Cezar acknowledged the concerns raised and outlined several reforms already underway within the company. These include improved staff welfare, salary adjustments, and incentive packages designed to boost operational efficiency and morale.

He further revealed that Metro Mass Transit is expecting a new fleet of buses, with the first batch scheduled to arrive by the end of March 2026, followed by additional units in the coming months.

The Managing Director assured the chief that plans are in place not only to operate buses along the Atebubu route but also to establish a branch office in the municipality to serve residents more effectively. He added that cargo transport services will also be introduced to support farmers and traders in moving goods safely and efficiently.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve livelihoods across the Atebubu area.
