Awutu Senya West DCE Rejects Rumours Of Student Death After School Athletics Incident

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Awutu Senya West District in the Central Region, Kalala Nyamekye, has publicly denied rumours circulating on social media and elsewhere that a student died following a clash at a school athletics event.

According to Mr Nyamekye, the confrontation occurred after the conclusion of the Zone 2 Inter-Schools Athletics Competition involving students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Agona Swedru School of Business. He stressed that while some students were hurt during the incident, no fatalities have occurred.

The DCE explained that three students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School were injured. They have been taken to health facilities for treatment, and one was admitted at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment of internal injuries.

Mr Nyamekye said authorities are investigating the matter, and the Education Director has set a meeting to decide the next steps concerning school sports safety and disciplinary actions. He also mentioned that some arrests have been made related to the clash, although police details were still being finalised at the time of the reports.

Local leaders and parents have been advised to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic or misrepresent the facts of the incident.
