Brazil Striker Neymar Says He Could Retire At End Of 2026
Brazilian football star Neymar Jr has revealed that he is considering retiring from professional football by the end of 2026. The 34-year-old forward, who recently rejoined his boyhood club Santos, said he is taking his career “year by year” and that he may decide to hang up his boots in December.
Neymar helped Santos remain in Brazil’s top division last season, scoring five goals in their final five matches. Despite his impactful performances, the veteran has struggled with injuries in recent years and uncertainty surrounds his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star said he does not know what the future holds beyond this year, explaining that “[he’s] living year to year,” and that December may be the moment he decides to retire.
Neymar has scored 79 goals for the Brazil national team, making him the nation’s all-time leading scorer, though he has not played for Brazil since October 2023 due to injury concerns. Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti has stressed that only fully fit players will be considered for the World Cup squad.
