Bryan Acheampong Says He Funded 62 NPP MPs With GH¢20,000 Monthly Allowance

Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party presidential hopeful Bryan Acheampong has disclosed that he personally provided financial support to 62 Members of Parliament from his party during the period the NPP was in government. According to him, each of the MPs received a monthly allowance of GH¢20,000, which he said came from his own resources.

Acheampong made the revelation while addressing party supporters during an internal engagement as part of his campaign activities. He explained that the financial support was aimed at helping MPs effectively manage their responsibilities in their constituencies, including addressing pressing local needs and supporting party activities on the ground.

He stated that the arrangement continued on a monthly basis while the party remained in power, resulting in a significant total financial commitment. Based on his figures, the support amounted to more than a million cedis being distributed every month among the selected MPs. Acheampong emphasized that the gesture was not motivated by personal gain but by his desire to strengthen unity within the party and ensure that lawmakers were adequately resourced.

The disclosure has generated widespread debate within political circles and among the public. While some party supporters have praised Acheampong for his generosity and commitment to the party, others have raised concerns about the role of personal wealth in internal party politics and leadership contests.

The comments come at a time when the NPP is preparing for key internal elections, with several aspirants positioning themselves for the party’s presidential slot. Acheampong’s remarks are expected to remain a major talking point as discussions continue about transparency, fairness, and influence in Ghanaian politics.
