Lawyer Says Nana Agradaa Could Be Released By March 3 After Sentence Reduction
The legal team for Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has revealed that she could be released from prison as early as March 3, 2026, depending on computations of her reduced sentence and time already served. Richard Asare Baffour, her lawyer, told media outlets that although she was initially handed a lengthy sentence, recent court rulings have significantly shortened her incarceration period.
Agradaa was originally sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court after being convicted on charges related to fraudulent advertising and unlawful broadcast operations in July 2025. The sentence date was backdated to the conviction date, meaning the time she spent in custody before and after conviction counts toward her overall term.
In late 2025, a High Court reduced her sentence from 15 years to 12 months, effectively shortening her remaining time significantly. Because her time in detention dates back to July 3, 2025, her legal team has calculated that she may have already served most of the new sentence period. Based on these calculations, the earliest she could walk free is March 3, 2026, provided the remaining procedural matters are finalised in court.
Lawyer Baffour said the reduction and backdating mean Agradaa may not have much more time to serve. He added that applications for bail and appeal are ongoing within the legal process, and updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
Her case has drawn public attention since her conviction, with debates about the legal aspects of her sentencing and the broader implications for similar cases. Observers have noted that court decisions to reduce sentences and consider time served reflect judicial discretion and procedural considerations in Ghana’s criminal justice system.
