Couple Arrested Over Alleged Ritual Killing Of Three Day Old Baby In Central Region

A young couple has been arrested in the Central Region after being accused of killing a three day old baby in what authorities suspect to be a ritual related crime.

According to reports, the suspects identified as Abena Benewa, 24, and Bright, were apprehended by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command following a disturbing incident at Awutu Bontrase. The couple is alleged to have killed and beheaded the newborn baby as part of a suspected money ritual.

Police sources indicate that the incident shocked residents in the community, prompting swift intervention from local authorities after information about the alleged crime surfaced. Community members reportedly raised alarm which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Preliminary reports suggest the suspects may have carried out the act with the intention of using the body of the infant for ritual purposes believed by some to bring wealth or prosperity. However, investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has since taken the suspects into custody as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities say the couple is assisting police with enquiries as they work to determine the exact motive behind the alleged crime.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief among residents of the area, many of whom expressed shock over the alleged killing of such a young child. Community leaders have also called for thorough investigations and justice for the victim.

Police have assured the public that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the matter is fully investigated and that anyone found responsible will face the full force of the law.

The case has once again raised concerns about ritual related crimes and the need for stronger community awareness and law enforcement efforts to prevent such incidents.

Investigations are ongoing and the suspects are expected to face legal proceedings once police complete their inquiries.
