Dan Quaye Backs Didi Dramani’s Goalkeeper Rotation Policy At Hearts Of Oak
Former Accra Hearts of Oak defender and Ghana international Dan Quaye has publicly supported head coach **Didi Dramani’s decision to rotate goalkeepers this season, saying it is a wise approach to managing the squad’s players over the long campaign.
Quaye spoke to a local radio station about Dramani’s choice to alternate between Hearts of Oak’s main goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who has also been capped for the Ghana national team, and his deputy Solomon Agbasi, instead of playing one shot-stopper in every match. He pointed out that even though Asare has been outstanding, giving him regular rest will help keep him fresh throughout the season.
“Asare has established himself as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper,” Quaye said, adding that the 31-year-old should not be expected to play every single game without needing a break. He compared the current situation to past successful goalkeeping rivalries at Hearts of Oak involving players such as Sammy Adjei and Eben Dida, emphasizing that internal competition has historically strengthened the club.
Quaye also praised Agbasi’s performances when given opportunities, highlighting that he has shown maturity and reliability between the posts. He believes that rotating goalkeepers can help maintain confidence, build depth in the squad, and reduce the risk of fatigue or injury. This, in his view, ultimately benefits the team’s performance in both the Ghana Premier League and other competitions.
Didi Dramani’s rotation policy has been a talking point among Hearts of Oak supporters, with some praising the coach for promoting competition while others were unsure about alternating his goalkeepers. Quaye’s endorsement is one of the most notable from a senior former player, lending weight to the idea that squad management and resting key players during a long season can be an effective strategy.
