IMANI Boss Calls For Decisive Action Over GH¢60.51 Billion Rot

The President and CEO of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has urged swift accountability and corrective measures over what he describes as a GH¢60.51 billion “rot” in Ghana’s public finances. He says the alarming financial situation demands urgent attention from government and oversight institutions to safeguard the economy and ensure transparency in public spending.

Mr Cudjoe highlighted that this financial deterioration includes a negative equity position of approximately GH¢3.8 billion, a sharp decline from previous positive equity levels. The situation, he argued, reflects deep-seated financial mismanagement that could undermine confidence in Ghana’s fiscal governance if not addressed.

In his remarks, the IMANI boss stressed the need for decisive action by authorities to identify the root causes of the rot and impose necessary sanctions on individuals or institutions responsible for the misuse or wastage of public resources. He called on Parliament, the Auditor-General and anti-corruption agencies to collaborate in investigating the matter thoroughly.

Cudjoe further warned that failure to act quickly and transparently could erode investor confidence and hamper economic recovery efforts, especially at a time when Ghana is seeking to stabilize its economy and restore fiscal discipline. He insisted that accountability and strengthened financial oversight are crucial for building public trust and ensuring that government operations remain sustainable.

The IMANI boss’s comments have reignited debate over public financial management in Ghana, with many calling for stronger enforcement of fiscal rules and greater scrutiny of government contracts and expenditures.
