An Adom TV presenter, Kwame Oboadie has gone viral after posting a video replying to Kofi Gabs has sparked both outrage and debate. Speaking at a recent conference, Oboadie asserted that ‘every person can have a Dutch passport but not a PhD.’
Oboadie’s comments have been met with mixed reactions. Some have condemned them as elitist and offensive, while others have defended them as a reflection of the high standards and rigorous academic requirements associated with obtaining a PhD.
The Netherlands is known for its liberal and inclusive immigration policies, which make it relatively easy for foreigners to obtain Dutch citizenship. According to the Dutch government, any individual who meets certain criteria, such as residency requirements and language proficiency, can apply for a Dutch passport.
In contrast to the PhD application process, which typically involves extensive research, academic publications, and a rigorous interview, obtaining a Dutch passport does not require any special qualifications or intellectual abilities. This has led some to argue that Oboadie’s comparison between the two is not fair.
