Fire Destroys More Than 100 Vehicles At Kumasi – Sofoline

A major fire broke out at a cluster of mechanic shops in Sofoline, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, destroying more than 100 vehicles and causing heavy property losses. The blaze began around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and quickly tore through parked cars, engines, spare parts, and upholstery materials before firefighters could fully bring it under control.

Residents and business owners in the area watched in alarm as thick smoke filled the sky and the fire spread rapidly through the mechanical enclave. Firefighters battled the inferno for several hours before finally extinguishing the flames, but the intense heat and speed of the blaze left scores of vehicles completely burnt beyond recovery.

No deaths or injuries have been reported so far, but the incident has devastated many mechanics, shop owners, and workers whose livelihoods depended on the businesses and vehicles lost in the fire. Many are now facing significant financial setbacks as they count their losses.

Officials say investigations are ongoing to determine what sparked the fire. At this stage, the exact cause has not been confirmed, but authorities are looking into all possibilities, including whether safety lapses or an unattended fire may have contributed to the rapid spread.
