Four Suspects Arrested Over Murder Of Sammy Gyamfi’s Father-In-Law
The Ghana Police Service has arrested four individuals in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of Mr. Andrews Amankwa Karikari, who was the father-in-law of prominent lawyer and politician Sammy Gyamfi. The arrests follow an intelligence-led investigation into the attack that occurred earlier this month at Ohwim-Amanfrom near Kumasi.
Mr. Amankwa Karikari was shot and injured during a violent robbery at his residence on February 10, 2026, before later dying from his wounds while receiving medical care. The incident generated significant public attention due to its connection to Mr. Gyamfi, a well-known figure in Ghanaian politics and communications.
In a coordinated operation conducted between February 18 and 22, Ashanti Regional Police, working with specialised units, carried out surveillance and targeted actions that led to the detention of four key suspects believed to have links to a dangerous robbery syndicate involved in carjackings and violent thefts.
Police have described the syndicate as responsible for several violent robberies in the Ashanti Region, including attacks on high-value vehicle owners. One of the suspects was captured with the late victim’s mobile phone, which helped officers trace and identify members of the group during the intelligence-driven inquiry. Another alleged leader of the syndicate was wounded during a police operation and later died in hospital.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander confirmed that the four suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations and profiling are completed. Authorities have stated that they will pursue all legal avenues to ensure justice for the deceased and to dismantle the criminal network connected to the attack.
