George Afriyie Confident Black Stars Can Beat England, Croatia, and Panama
Former Ghana Football Association vice president George Afriyie has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to secure victories against all three of their opponents in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama for the tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Afriyie acknowledged the strength and reputation of the group rivals but insisted that none of them are unbeatable.
Speaking in a recent interview, Afriyie said, “England, Croatia, and Panama are all beatable,” emphasizing that the Black Stars should approach the World Cup with ambition and confidence. He noted that with proper preparation, tactical discipline, and the right mindset, Ghana has the talent to achieve positive results.
Afriyie also highlighted the importance of arranging competitive friendly matches ahead of the tournament to sharpen the team’s readiness and build cohesion. He believes that such preparation is key to improving Ghana’s chances of advancing beyond the group stage.
The Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign is set to begin against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a match against England on June 23 in Boston, and concluding with Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
After previous group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, Ghana is determined to make a stronger showing in 2026. Afriyie’s remarks reflect optimism among supporters and football analysts about the team’s prospects.
