Ghana Condemns US Action in Venezuela and Demands Release of President Maduro
The Government of Ghana has strongly condemned recent actions by the United States in Venezuela, describing them as unacceptable and contrary to international law. In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana called for the immediate and unconditional release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, following reports of his detention.
Ghana expressed serious concern over what it described as unilateral actions that undermine the sovereignty and political independence of Venezuela. According to the statement, such interventions violate the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly those related to non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. The government warned that actions of this nature pose a significant threat to international peace and global stability.
The statement further criticized remarks attributed to US authorities suggesting control over Venezuela’s political transition and natural resources. Ghana described these comments as disturbing and reflective of outdated imperialist tendencies that have no place in modern international relations. The government emphasized that no external power has the right to determine the political future of another nation.
Reaffirming its foreign policy position, Ghana stressed its unwavering support for the right of all peoples to self determination. It stated clearly that the future of Venezuela must be decided solely by Venezuelans through peaceful and democratic means, free from foreign pressure or coercion.
Ghana also called on the international community to work toward de-escalation and dialogue rather than confrontation. The government urged respect for international law, diplomacy, and multilateral engagement as the only sustainable paths to resolving global conflicts.
The statement concluded by reiterating Ghana’s longstanding opposition to invasion, occupation, colonialism, and all forms of external domination. Ghana pledged to continue advocating for justice, sovereignty, and respect for international norms on the global stage.
