A young woman has shared a chilling account of how she was robbed after boarding a taxi in Awoshie, a suburb of Accra.
According to her narration, the incident occurred in the early hours of March 19, 2026, when she boarded what she believed to be a normal commercial taxi. Moments into the journey, the situation took a frightening turn when the driver allegedly picked up additional passengers who later turned out to be accomplices.
She recounted that the men suddenly turned on her, threatening her and demanding her valuables. The group reportedly robbed her of her belongings, leaving her terrified and helpless during the ordeal.
The victim described the experience as traumatic, explaining how vulnerable she felt during the attack. She expressed gratitude for surviving the incident but noted that the emotional impact remains significant.
Her story has since sparked widespread concern on social media, with many Ghanaians raising alarm over increasing cases of robbery linked to taxis and commercial transport services. Others have called for stricter monitoring of drivers and improved security measures to protect passengers, especially those travelling at odd hours.
The incident also serves as a cautionary reminder for commuters to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unverified vehicles, and, where possible, share travel details with trusted contacts.
Authorities are being urged to intensify efforts to clamp down on criminal networks using taxis as a cover for robbery operations, as concerns over public safety continue to grow.
