Bishop J.Y. Adu Makes New Revelation Following Yaw Sarpong’s Death
Bishop J.Y. Adu, founder and leader of the New Jerusalem Church, has shared fresh details surrounding the death of renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong. Speaking publicly after news of the gospel legend’s passing, the bishop offered insight into Sarpong’s long health struggles and the events that unfolded in his final years.
According to Bishop Adu, Yaw Sarpong had been battling serious health complications for well over a decade. He revealed that the musician first fell critically ill in 2011, an episode that left him partially paralysed for a period before he gradually regained strength. However, the health challenges resurfaced in 2020, after which Sarpong’s condition reportedly became more fragile and demanding.
The bishop explained that during this later phase of illness, the church took an active role in supporting Sarpong, ensuring he received both medical attention and spiritual care. However, disagreements arose between church leadership and members of Sarpong’s family over where he should continue receiving treatment. Bishop Adu stated that he preferred Sarpong to remain under supervised care, especially following the death of his longtime musical partner, Maame Adwoa Tiwaa.
Despite his concerns, Sarpong’s family eventually decided to take him home. Bishop Adu said he respected their decision, even though he believed the environment with trained caregivers and medical equipment offered better support for Sarpong’s condition. He added that after Sarpong was moved, his health declined further, requiring oxygen support and making feeding difficult.
Bishop Adu said he visited Sarpong at home and once again advised the family to consider returning him to supervised care, but his recommendation was not accepted. He stressed that efforts were made through both prayer and medical support, noting that the outcome ultimately rests with God.
