Intimidation Claims Are Excuses For Losing Aspirants Oppong Nkrumah Says
Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has rejected claims that delegates in the New Patriotic Party flagbearer contest are being intimidated, describing such allegations as excuses often used by aspirants who sense defeat.
He explained that Ghana’s democratic culture makes it difficult for anyone to coerce or force delegates to vote against their will. According to him, delegates are well informed and capable of making independent decisions without external pressure.
Oppong Nkrumah said allegations of intimidation usually surface when candidates feel they are losing ground in the contest. He maintained that in his constituency, delegates would vote freely based on conviction and not fear.
He warned that reckless accusations could damage the image of the party and provide political opponents with unnecessary talking points. He urged supporters and campaign teams to avoid negative rhetoric and instead focus on persuading delegates through ideas and vision.
Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that a campaign built on policies, respectful engagement and unity would strengthen the party ahead of national elections and help delegates make informed choices as the primary approaches.
