King Promise is the Artiste of the Year, Not Stonebwoy – Efia Odo Maintains.

Media personality and actress Efia Odo has sparked controversy on social media by declaring King Promise as the rightful Artiste of the Year at the recently concluded Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Following the announcement of Stonebwoy as the winner of the coveted award, Efia Odo took to Twitter to express her disagreement with the decision. She tweeted, ‘King Promise deserves it more .

Efia Odo’s opinion has ignited a heated debate among Ghanaians on social media. Many support her view, arguing that King Promise had a phenomenal year, with his hit songs dominating the charts and earning him numerous accolades.

King Promise, real name Gregory Bortey Newman, had a breakout year in 2022. His album, ‘5 Star,’ was a commercial success, spawning smash hits like ‘Oh Yeah,’ ‘Slow Down,’ and ‘Me & You.’ He also collaborated with international artists such as Headie One and Wizkid.

Stonebwoy, on the other hand, had a solid year, releasing several singles and headlining major concerts. However, some critics believe that his output in 2023 did not match the exceptional impact King Promise made on the Ghanaian music scene.

Efia Odo’s comments have not gone unnoticed by the VGMA organizers.
