Kumawood Star Yaw Dabo Files GH¢1 Million Defamation Case Against Oboy Siki

Kumawood actor and football executive Yaw Dabo has taken legal action against fellow entertainer Oboy Siki, demanding GH¢1 million (about US$1 million) in damages in a defamation lawsuit filed at a court in Kumasi, Ghana. The suit comes after Oboy Siki allegedly made remarks during an interview that Dabo says were false, damaging his reputation and professional standing.

According to court filings, Oboy Siki’s contentious comments were made following a football event and later circulated widely on social media, sparking public discussion and criticism. Dabo’s legal team argues that the statements were made with malicious intent and that they harmed his public image as both an actor and a football administrator. He is now asking the court to award GH¢1 million in general damages for the reputational harm he says he has suffered.

Dabo’s lawyers also want the court to issue an injunction preventing Oboy Siki from making similar comments in the future, stating that stopping the repetition of such remarks is critical to preventing further harm. The case underscores growing concerns among Ghanaian public figures about the impact of online statements and their potential to affect careers and personal life.

Oboy Siki has reportedly apologised for his comments, a development that could factor into how the case proceeds. However, his legal team is expected to file a formal defence outlining their response to the allegations in the coming weeks.

The appearance by both actors in court attracted public attention, reflecting the high-profile nature of the dispute. With the lawsuit ongoing, observers are watching closely to see how Ghana’s courts will balance freedom of speech with protections against reputational harm.
