Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster and cultural advocate Kwame Adinkra has expressed dissatisfaction with how the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba was laid to rest and has announced plans to formally petition the President for a new funeral to properly honor the musician’s legacy.
Speaking publicly, Kwame Adinkra stated that the burial and funeral arrangements accorded to Daddy Lumba did not reflect the immense contribution the iconic musician made to Ghana’s music industry and national culture. According to him, Daddy Lumba was not just an entertainer but a national treasure whose influence spanned generations, and therefore deserved a more dignified and well-organized farewell.
Kwame Adinkra revealed that he is preparing a proposal to be submitted to the President, requesting government support for a new memorial funeral service in Daddy Lumba’s honor. He believes such an event would allow the nation, fellow musicians, fans, and cultural leaders to properly celebrate the life and achievements of the legendary artist.
He also touched on the family tensions that reportedly surrounded the original funeral arrangements, particularly disagreements between the musician’s spouses. Kwame Adinkra suggested that a new funeral or national memorial could help restore peace among the family members and present a united front in honoring Daddy Lumba’s memory.
According to him, the proposed event would not be about reopening old wounds but about correcting what many fans see as a missed opportunity to give Daddy Lumba the recognition he deserved. He emphasized that Daddy Lumba’s music shaped Ghanaian culture for decades and continues to influence young artists across the country.
