Lawyer Reports Threats After Appealing Highlife Legend Burial Dispute Ruling

Legal practitioner William Kusi Boateng has disclosed that he has received several threats following his decision to file an appeal in the ongoing legal dispute surrounding the burial and widowhood claims linked to the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba.

Mr Kusi Boateng, who represents Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, explained that the threats began shortly after the appeal was officially lodged at the Court of Appeal. The appeal challenges a High Court ruling that dismissed key aspects of his client’s claim to be recognised as the lawful spouse of the late musician and to exercise related burial rights.

According to the lawyer, the threats are troubling and unfortunate, especially given that the appeal process is a legitimate legal remedy available to any party dissatisfied with a court’s decision. He stressed that pursuing justice through the courts should never expose a legal practitioner or their client to intimidation or fear.

Despite the alleged threats, Mr Kusi Boateng stated that he remains resolute and committed to defending his client’s interests within the boundaries of the law. He expressed confidence in the appeal, noting that it raises important legal questions regarding the interpretation of evidence and the application of marital and customary law principles in the original ruling.

The burial dispute has generated significant public attention, with multiple family members and alleged spouses asserting competing claims over funeral arrangements and estate matters. These disagreements have prolonged funeral preparations and intensified public debate around inheritance, marriage recognition, and family rights.

As the appeal process continues, Mr Kusi Boateng has called for calm and respect for the judicial system, urging the public to allow the courts to determine the matter without external pressure or hostility. He also reaffirmed his belief that the legal process will ultimately provide clarity and fairness to all parties involved.
