Major Housing Initiative Unveiled for Police, Military, and Fire Service by President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has launched a major housing initiative aimed at improving accommodation for personnel in Ghana’s security services. The programme is part of the government’s broader Big Push Agenda and is expected to enhance welfare and operational efficiency for frontline officers.
Speaking at the West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) event at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra, President Mahama revealed that a Singaporean construction company has been commissioned to build new housing units for the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed during Mahama’s official visit to Singapore in 2025, which included the establishment of a prefabricated housing factory in Ghana. The company’s first major project in the country was the construction of a 10,000-bed student hostel at the University of Ghana, and it is now expanding to provide housing for security personnel.
President Mahama urged security agencies to identify available land within their barracks to facilitate the construction of the new homes. He emphasized that the initiative will improve living conditions, boost morale, and strengthen the effectiveness of security officers.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other security personnel for maintaining law and order, particularly during the festive season. The President reiterated that disciplined, strategic, and intelligence-led operations are critical to national development and public safety.
