Man Dies In Domestic Fire At Assin Foso
A 26‑year‑old man has died after a fire engulfed his home in Mempeasem, near the Railway Station Quarters in Assin Foso, Central Region. The victim, identified as Barron Guda, also known as Efutu, was found burnt beyond recognition following the early-morning blaze.
The fire occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, and emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service arrived around 7:00 a.m. Unfortunately, Guda had already lost his life by the time the flames were controlled. His body was taken to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue as police launched an investigation into the incident.
Some residents have suggested that the fire may have been deliberately set due to previous disputes between Guda and others in the area. Others believe it could have been accidental, noting that the victim was seen smoking in his home earlier in the morning.
Following the incident, tensions in the community rose as friends of the deceased called for swift police action. Additional police units were deployed to maintain order while investigations continue.
