Nana B Urges Voters To Choose Local Candidate In Ayawaso East By-Election

Henry Nana Boakye, known publicly as Nana B and serving as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to residents of the Ayawaso East Constituency to support the party’s parliamentary candidate, Baba Ali Yussif, in the March 3 by-election. His call comes as campaigning intensifies ahead of the vote following the death of the sitting MP in January.

Addressing voters during a community engagement in Ayawaso East, Nana B described Baba Ali as a genuine grassroots candidate with deep roots in the community. He emphasised that Yussif has lived, worked, and taught in the constituency for many years, giving him firsthand understanding of local challenges.

Speaking in pidgin English, Nana B urged constituents not to elect someone unfamiliar with the area’s issues. He said, “Baba Ali Yussif is your brother. He sleeps with you, he wakes up with you… don’t bring in any stranger,” stressing that even after the election, Yussif would remain part of the community and accessible to residents.

Nana B also criticised what he said were unfair practices by the opposition during their internal selection processes, although he did not provide specific details in his remarks. His comments reflect the NPP’s wider campaign strategy of positioning Yussif as the best choice to represent Ayawaso East in Parliament.

The by-election is expected to be closely contested, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Baba Jamal, who resigned as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria to contest the seat, among those challenging Yussif.
