NDC Manifesto on Creative Arts, Culture and Tourism

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently unveiled its 2024 manifesto with ambitious plans to enhance Ghana’s creative arts, sports, and tourism sectors. Since Streetzgist.com primarily focuses on entertainment and culture, we’ve zoomed in on what this manifesto has to offer for creatives, athletes, and tourism professionals in Ghana.

Presidential candidate of the NDC proudly holds up the 2024 manifesto above his head while displaying it to a lively audience. Standing to his left is the vice-presidential candidate, smiling confidently, and to his right is the NDC chairman, clapping in support. The “Black Star Experience” for Creatives

The highlight of the NDC’s cultural agenda is the Black Star Experience, a flagship project designed to celebrate Ghana’s artistic and cultural diversity all year round. This initiative will feature events such as:

  • Ghana Film Festival and Awards Month in October
  • Fashion and Textiles Month in November
  • Literary Month in February, celebrating icons like Ama Ata Aidoo and Kofi Awoonor

In addition to these events, the NDC promises to revive the Creative Arts Fund to provide financial support for startups and struggling enterprises in the creative industry. Young digital content creators can also expect greater backing, with resources and capacity-building initiatives aimed at helping them produce commercially viable content that reflects Ghanaian culture(MyJoyOnline ,Pulse Ghana).

Revamping Tourism: Infrastructure, Digitalization, and Inclusivity

Tourism plays a significant role in the NDC’s vision for economic growth. The party plans to refurbish iconic heritage sites, develop new centers of national culture, and create diverse tourism experiences such as culinary and wellness tourism. Importantly, the manifesto outlines a digital transformation of Ghana’s tourism sector through virtual reality tours and real-time online databases, aiming to make Ghana a top-tier global destination(Adomonline.com).

Inclusivity is also a priority, with proposed upgrades to tourist facilities to accommodate people with disabilities. Additionally, the NDC envisions a smoother integration process for members of the African diaspora wishing to relocate to Ghana, backed by legal and ethical frameworks(Pulse Ghana).

Protecting and Empowering Creative Professionals

The manifesto addresses key issues affecting creatives, such as inadequate copyright protection and limited financial security. The NDC plans to enforce copyright laws more strictly, improve royalty collection systems, and introduce pension schemes for artists. These measures aim to provide a safety net, allowing creatives to focus on honing their craft without the constant worry of financial instability(MyJoyOnline,Adomonline.com).

A Comprehensive Strategy for the Creative Economy

From celebrating Ghana’s cultural heritage year-round to enhancing tourism infrastructure and supporting digital content creators, the NDC’s 2024 manifesto offers a comprehensive strategy to boost the creative economy. With the Black Star Experience at its core, the plan aims to make Ghana a cultural hub while addressing long-standing challenges in the arts, sports, and tourism sectors.
