Nigeria Was The “Worst” Stop On IShowSpeed’s Africa Tour, Says Nollywood Actor

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has stirred conversation after ranking Nigeria as the worst stop on American streamer IShowSpeed’s ongoing African tour. The streamer, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., has been livestreaming his travels across several African countries as part of his Speed Does Africa series.

Remi took to Instagram to share his critique after watching the Lagos leg of the tour. He claimed that the way the visit unfolded did not showcase Nigeria’s rich culture or heritage but instead highlighted superficial attractions. In his view, the presentation lacked depth and was more focused on nightlife and entertainment than on authentic cultural values.

The actor wrote that Lagos was “stripped naked,” suggesting that the portrayal did not reflect the true essence of Nigerian culture. He added that what was shown seemed to emphasise “fake drinks, club scenes and beggy beggy skills,” rather than the traditions and dignity the country is known for.

Remi’s comments have sparked reactions online, with some agreeing that international portrayals of Nigeria often miss deeper cultural aspects, while others argue that the tour was meant to be lighthearted and entertaining. Meanwhile, IShowSpeed has stated that his Africa tour is designed to highlight everyday life, street talent and local experiences rather than influencer collaborations or staged content.
