Nigerian Remanded As Seven Others Face Charges Over Illegal Entry
A 31-year-old Nigerian national has been remanded by an Adenta circuit court after being charged in connection with the illegal entry of seven other foreign nationals into Ghana.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly facilitated the entry of the seven individuals through unauthorised routes. All eight persons were arrested by security agencies during an operation and were unable to provide valid immigration documents to justify their presence in the country.
The court heard that the seven foreigners have also been charged with illegal entry and failure to comply with Ghana’s immigration laws. Prosecutors stated that preliminary investigations raised concerns about possible human trafficking activities, prompting further inquiry by law enforcement agencies.
Following their appearance in court, the presiding judge ordered that the Nigerian national be remanded in custody to allow for further investigations. The seven others were also ordered to face the charges as legal proceedings continue.
Immigration officials say efforts are being intensified to clamp down on illegal entry and related offences, stressing that such actions are necessary to protect national security and uphold the country’s immigration regulations. The case has been adjourned to a later date for continuation.
