Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about the strength of her long lasting marriage, revealing that she has never fought with her husband over infidelity throughout their three decades together.
Speaking during an interview on the Afropolitan podcast, the celebrated actress reflected on the foundation of trust and mutual respect that has sustained her marriage to Captain Matthew Ekeinde. According to her, their relationship has remained stable for over 30 years because both partners give each other freedom and trust without unnecessary suspicion.
Omotola explained that despite the many challenges that can affect marriages, disagreements over cheating have never been part of their relationship. She noted that her husband has always trusted her career decisions and personal independence, while she also places the same level of trust in him. The actress added that their ability to respect each other’s space has played an important role in maintaining peace in their home.
The mother of four also emphasised that divorce is not something she personally considers in her marriage. However, she clarified that her personal belief should not be interpreted as criticism of others who decide to end their marriages. According to her, every relationship is unique and should not be judged by the standards of another couple.
Omotola further explained that the dynamics of every marriage depend on the individuals involved. She said some couples may struggle with broken trust or betrayal, while others build their relationship on consistent understanding and loyalty. For her, the deep bond she shares with her husband after more than three decades together makes it difficult for external factors to destabilise their union.
The award winning actress also praised her husband’s personality, describing him as a selfless person who does not allow ego to interfere with their relationship. She believes this quality has helped maintain balance and harmony in their home over the years.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde married Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996 when she was just 18 years old. Since then, the couple has built a family together and raised four children while she continued to grow her career as one of Nollywood’s most influential actresses.
