Papi Fires Back At Stonebwoy Over ‘Jejereje’ Political Claim
Ghanaian musician Papi, a member of the music duo 5Five, has strongly dismissed claims made by dancehall star Stonebwoy that his hit song Jejereje contributed to the victory of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 general elections.
Reacting to the statement, Papi described Stonebwoy’s claim as false and misleading, insisting that the song had no real influence on the outcome of the elections. He bluntly stated that attributing a political victory to a non-political song does not reflect reality.
The controversy stems from comments made by Stonebwoy during a public appearance, where he suggested that Jejereje played a role in easing tensions and contributing to the NDC’s success. His remarks quickly sparked debate across the entertainment and political space, with many questioning the extent to which music can influence electoral outcomes.
Papi, however, firmly rejected that notion. According to him, while music can entertain and even energise people during campaign periods, it does not have the power to determine election results. He emphasised that factors such as policies, leadership, and voter decisions are what truly shape political victories, not hit songs.
The musician’s response adds to growing criticism of Stonebwoy’s statement, as several observers argue that the claim exaggerates the influence of entertainment on serious political processes.
The debate has since generated widespread reactions online, with fans and industry players divided over whether musicians should associate their work with political outcomes. Some believe such comments risk politicising the music industry, while others see it as a reflection of the cultural impact of popular songs.
As discussions continue, the situation highlights the complex relationship between entertainment and politics in Ghana, especially during election periods when music often becomes part of campaign atmospheres.
