Political Parties Must Appoint More Women To Government, Says Claudia Lumor
Media entrepreneur and former political candidate Claudia Lumor has urged political parties in Ghana to be more intentional about appointing women to leadership positions in government. She said that parties should take deliberate steps to ensure women are represented in decision-making roles rather than leaving appointments to chance.
Lumor stressed that increasing the number of women in government is not just a numbers game but requires purposeful action from political organisations. She said that parties must actively create opportunities for qualified women to serve in key positions if progress towards gender equality in leadership is to be achieved.
In her remarks, Lumor pointed out that intentional inclusion helps break down barriers that have traditionally kept women out of top political offices, and that it can strengthen governance by bringing diverse perspectives into policy formulation.
Her comments come amid broader discussions in Ghana about gender equity and the importance of ensuring that women’s voices are heard at the highest levels of government. Lumor’s call aligns with ongoing efforts to support women’s participation in politics and leadership in Ghana.
