Portable Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Assault And Car Theft
Nigerian singer and entertainer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, has been remanded in custody after being arraigned before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State on multiple criminal charges. He appeared in court on Monday to face a nine‑count charge, including allegations of assault, theft, causing bodily harm, resisting arrest, and other related offences.
The court proceedings followed reports of an incident on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area, where he is alleged to have assaulted several individuals, including police officers and his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. The alleged events drew attention after a video of Portable in police custody circulated widely.
Several people are listed as alleged victims in the charge sheet, including Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. Prosecutors also alleged that Portable stole a Mercedes‑Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million during the incident. Court testimony from two siblings of Ashabi Simple described the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself did not appear in court. Police further stated that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector while she was performing her duties.
During the hearing, Portable’s legal team applied for bail, but the presiding judge denied the request. The judge ruled that the allegedly assaulted police officer must be present before any bail decision could be made, ordering that Portable remain in custody. His bail application is expected to be reconsidered when the court reconvenes on January 19, 2026.
This is not the first legal challenge for Portable. He was previously sentenced to prison in May last year for assault, highlighting a recurring pattern of legal issues for the controversial musician.
