President Mahama Arrives In Tanzania For African Court’s 20th Anniversary
President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in the United Republic of Tanzania to participate in celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. His visit also coincides with the official opening of the 2026 Judicial Year of the continental court, which plays a significant role in protecting human rights across Africa.
The President landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport ahead of the main ceremony, where he was welcomed by Tanzanian officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also present to receive him were Ghana’s diplomatic officials, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between both countries.
President Mahama is expected to serve as the Guest of Honour at the launch event, which will be held in Arusha, the city that hosts the African Court’s headquarters. The ceremony brings together judges, legal experts, and representatives from across the continent to reflect on the court’s achievements and future direction.
The anniversary celebration will also highlight the institution’s impact over the past two decades in advancing human rights, strengthening legal systems, and promoting justice throughout Africa.
