Kwasi Kwarteng Says He Believed In Prophet ElBernard’s Word Before NPP Results

Kwasi Kwarteng, who served as spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race, has explained why he confidently supported a prophecy made by Prophet Bernard ElBernard Nelson-Eshun about Agyapong’s chances in the party’s leadership contest.

In a recent interview with Accra-based Joy Prime TV, Kwarteng said he had “every basis to believe” in the prophecy after Prophet ElBernard predicted that Kennedy Agyapong would emerge as the NPP’s flagbearer. At the time, Kwarteng and others close to Agyapong took the prediction seriously and felt it aligned with their hopes for the outcome of the race.

The NPP held its leadership election in late January 2026, a contest in which Mahamudu Bawumia eventually won the party’s flagbearer position. Although Agyapong did not win, Kwarteng said his faith in the prophecy was based on his trust in Prophet ElBernard’s spiritual insight.

Kwarteng also shared that Agyapong’s supporters were not discouraged after the results and remained committed to supporting the party’s journey forward. He emphasized that belief in the prophecy did not stop them from campaigning for unity within the NPP after the primaries.

Prophet ElBernard is known in parts of Ghana for making predictions related to political outcomes. The prophet’s forecast about Agyapong’s supposed victory in the NPP’s internal race became a topic of discussion, especially after it did not happen as described.

Kwarteng’s remarks shed light on how spirituality and political expectations sometimes intersect in Ghana’s political culture, reflecting a broader pattern where prophetic messages are shared and discussed during major political events.
