President Mahama Says IShowSpeed Boosted Ghana’s Global Visibility
President John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged the unexpected promotional impact that social media star IShowSpeed has had on Ghana’s international image, saying the internet personality has done more advertising for the country than official campaigns in some markets.
Speaking in Accra on Friday, President Mahama noted that IShowSpeed’s viral content featuring Ghana has captured global attention and helped spark curiosity about the nation’s culture and attractions. He said the influence of digital creators like IShowSpeed highlights how modern platforms can drive interest in a country in ways that formal promotions sometimes cannot.
“IShowSpeed has shown Ghana to millions around the world in an authentic and engaging way,” President Mahama said. “The enthusiasm he brings when he showcases our people, our food, and our streets has generated a level of exposure that is truly remarkable for us.”
The president also reflected on how social media personalities have become powerful ambassadors of culture in the digital age. Instead of traditional marketing alone, he said, countries now benefit when influencers share their experiences organically with large global audiences.
President Mahama’s comments follow a wave of viral posts by IShowSpeed that featured his interactions and experiences in Ghana, which have drawn widespread attention and sparked conversation online. The president suggested that this kind of visibility can complement formal tourism and investment promotion efforts.
He added that while government remains focused on official promotional strategies, it is also important to recognise and celebrate the role that creators and entertainers play in enhancing Ghana’s brand on the world stage.
