The Two Paths to Relevance

Sarkodie explained that musicians have two main paths to stay relevant: the easy way and the hard way. However, he quickly pointed out that what seems like the “easy way”—using controversy—becomes much harder over time. “The easiest way is the hardest way. And people didn’t understand what I said. The easiest way to do it is the obvious. You’re trying to be controversial. You did something that brought you to the top. And then it’s going to be hard because now you’re supposed to give up that energy for the rest of the time,” he stated. Clearly, controversy requires constant maintenance.

The Downside of Using Controversy

Relying on controversy, according to Sarkodie, forces artists to continually generate drama just to maintain their fame. This path can severely limit growth. He added, “But then the hardest way would be the easiest when everything is said and done and finally you are in because you didn’t do no gimmicks.” In the end, staying relevant in music requires consistent hard work, which pays off over time.

Hard Work: The Key to Long-Term Relevance

Sarkodie  exemplifies how hard work leads to long-term success in his career. Rather than depending on gimmicks, he consistently focuses on refining his craft year after year. He stated, “I can proudly say that. I don’t matter because they think you’re done; maybe you’re rapping more than anybody. It’s more of, even if you’re not a fan, it’s the respect bit of it, and I had to put in work.” This statement highlights that respect and longevity stem from unwavering dedication. Moreover, Sarkodie‘s insights on staying relevant in music offer invaluable tips for upcoming artists looking to reach the top.

In conclusion, Sarkodie’s insights on staying relevant in music highlight the importance of choosing hard work over fleeting controversy. Although controversy may bring temporary fame, artists who focus on building their craft will enjoy long-term success and respect in the industry.
