Scrap Dealers President Raises Alarm Over Rising Mob Killings After Latest Tragedy

The President of the Ashanti Regional Scrap Dealers Association has raised serious concerns following the killing of two scrap dealers in the Ashanti Region, describing the situation as increasingly alarming.

The latest incident occurred at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, where two scrap dealers were attacked and killed by a mob over allegations of attempted child theft. Reports indicate that the victims were in the community to purchase scrap materials when suspicions were raised, leading to a violent reaction from residents.

Reacting to the incident, the association’s president, Abdulai Gagala, condemned the act and expressed deep worry over what he described as a growing pattern of attacks on scrap dealers. He stressed that such incidents are becoming far too common and are putting the lives of his members at constant risk.

He argued that many of these attacks are based on unverified claims and misunderstandings, urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. According to him, innocent individuals are increasingly falling victim to mob justice due to suspicion and fear.

Gagala further called on security agencies to step up efforts to protect scrap dealers and ensure that those responsible for such acts are brought to justice. He emphasized that anyone could be wrongly accused and become a victim if the trend is not urgently addressed.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent issue of mob justice in Ghana, where individuals accused of crimes are sometimes punished without due legal process. Authorities have since launched investigations into the killings, while the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the morgue.

This latest tragedy has sparked renewed calls for stronger law enforcement presence and public education to curb mob violence and uphold the rule of law.
