Shatta Wale Files GH₵100 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Blakk Rasta
Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has taken legal action against radio broadcaster and social commentator Blakk Rasta, filing a GH₵100 million defamation lawsuit over comments he claims have caused serious damage to his reputation and career.
According to court filings, the lawsuit stems from statements made by Blakk Rasta in a video and subsequent commentary in which Shatta Wale alleges he was falsely portrayed as dishonest and involved in fraudulent activities. The artist argues that these remarks were made without evidence, were malicious in nature, and were intended to incite public ridicule and distrust toward him.
Shatta Wale is seeking GH₵100 million in general damages, citing reputational harm, emotional distress, and potential loss of business opportunities both locally and internationally. In addition to financial compensation, the suit requests a court declaration that the statements were defamatory, as well as an order compelling Blakk Rasta to remove all related content from social media and other public platforms.
The artist is also demanding a full public retraction and an unqualified apology, to be issued with the same level of prominence as the original statements. His legal team further wants the court to place a permanent injunction on Blakk Rasta, preventing him from making or publishing similar claims in the future.
The lawsuit highlights how widely the disputed content circulated online, noting that the rapid spread amplified its impact and worsened the alleged damage. The case represents a significant escalation in tensions between the two public figures and has sparked widespread discussion within Ghana’s entertainment and media circles.
As the matter moves through the courts, it is expected to test the boundaries between freedom of expression and defamation in Ghana’s media landscape.
